BPMI.ORG ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL BOARD OF DIRECTORSBusiness Process Standards Group also Appoints Executive DirectorSan Mateo, CA - August 07, 2001 - The election process was completed at the organization’s June member meeting in Coronado, California. Board members will provide both business and technical leadership as the organization continues its work providing open standards for the management of business processes. Jeanne Baker Baker is the director of software development for e-business process integration solutions at Sterling Commerce. She has been a part of the Sterling Commerce management team for five years. Before joining Sterling Commerce, Baker worked in the information technology industry for ten years as a developer and research scientist. She holds a Master of Arts degree in mathematics and a graduate certificate in artificial intelligence from Eastern Michigan University. "As the industry evolves beyond EDI, standard XML-based languages are needed to conduct business processes across enterprise boundaries," said Baker. "Current standards and languages are proprietary and limited in scope. The Business Process Modeling Language (BPML) creates a standard language, open to anyone, that moves beyond these limitations to help businesses extend their processes and coordinate data throughout their supply chains." Ismael Ghalimi Ghalimi is the CEO and co-founder of Intalio, the Business Process Management Company. He co-founded Intalio in July 1999 after organizing the first ExoLab Session, an Open Source software conference that laid the technical foundations for forthcoming Business Process Management Systems (BPMS). Ghalimi initiated the development of the Business Process Management Initiative (BPMI.org) in July 2000. "BPMI.org is a unique combination of IT vendors, consulting firms, and end user organizations that bring an unprecedented level of industry expertise related to business process management," noted Ghalimi. "I believe this initiative has the potential to become the driving force in the BPM arena, and I am committed to making that a reality." Mike Marin Marin is the architect for the FileNET eProcess technology. He is a vice-chair of the Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) Technical Committee and chair of the Interoperability working group. Marin has contributed to the definition several workflow standards in both the Object Management Coalition (OMG) and WfMC. He has received the WfMC Excellence Award for his technical contributions to the standardization efforts. "The creation of BPMI.org is the single most significant development in the standardization effort of process technology," Marin said. "BPMI.org has been able to capture the attention of the IT community and bring together the significant vendors with the common goal of creating a state of the art standard for process management." J. Matthew Pryor Pryor is senior architect at Versata, a provider of software and services for automating e-business transactions and processes. In addition to being the chief architect of the Versata Interaction Server, Pryor is tasked with directing overall Versata product architecture, particularly as it relates to relevant industry standards. In this role, he is Versata's primary liaison with industry standards bodies. Prior to joining Versata, Pryor was co-founder and CTO of Verve Inc., the developers of the Verve Process Engine. Verve was acquired by Versata in November 2000. Pryor has over 12 years of software development, architecture and company executive experience. "Business Process Management is about extracting value from, and gaining competitive advantage with, information technology. BPMI.org is a customer and vendor alliance that is developing pragmatic and timely standards to ensure organizations can take advantage of process management and understand and articulate its relevance to other important industry standards. Howard Smith Smith is Chief Technology Officer for Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) in Europe. Smith has over 20 years experience in the IT industry. He co-founded Ontology.Org and was an invited expert to CommerceNet's eCo Framework Project. "CSC is participating in the BPMI.org because process management directly addresses the business needs of our global customers in sectors such as Aerospace, Federal, Finance, Manufacturing, Healthcare and Telecommunications," noted Smith. "From our experience in the enterprise and B2B we understand the need for a standard representation for business processes and a corresponding architecture for process management. As an Enterprise Integrator, process management will become a key capability across CSC and we look forward to working with the BPMI.org members on this important industry standardization effort." The board subsequently named Ismael Ghalimi of Intalio as its Chairman, and Howard Smith of Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) as co-Chair. As its first order of business, the new board of directors appointed Layna Fischer as the organization’s executive director. Layna Fischer In addition to being Chief Executive Officer of Future Strategies Inc., Fischer has headed up WARIA, the Workflow And Reengineering International Association for the past eight years, and chaired the board of its Academy of Business Process Improvement. Last year, she accepted the position as General Manager to the Workflow Management Coalition (wfmc.org). Fischer has authored best-selling books including "New Tools for New Times: The Workflow Paradigm", "New Tools for New Times: Electronic Commerce", the "Excellence in Practice" series, and "The Workflow Handbook 2001". She sits on the Executive Boards of "Business Change and Reengineering: The Journal of Corporate Transformation" and the Black Forest Group. Fischer’s vast knowledge of process management and proven track record in managing successful organizations will clearly bring immediate benefits to BPMI.org.
