BPMI.ORG REFINES BPML SPECIFICATION AT SECOND MEETING

Over 50 Member Representatives of the Business Process Management Initiative Convene near San Francisco

SAN MATEO, Calif. - December 20, 2000 - BPMI.org, the Business Process Management Initiative, announced the second organization-wide meeting was held on Thursday, November 30 in Burlingame, CA. Over 50 experts in business process management participated in the meeting to discuss and enhance the Business Process Modeling Language (BPML) specification. Members also discussed organizational developments and laid out plans for future working groups.

"The Business Process Management Initiative will be very important for B2B eCommerce. This productive meeting concentrated on the technical details ofthe BPML specification, which is being developed by the many committed members of BPMI.org. These members bring considerable expertise in various areas of business processes, vastly increasing the probability of widespread implementation," states Mike Marin, FileNET's eProcess Architect. BPML is a meta-language for the modeling of business processes, just as XML is a meta-language for the modeling of business data. BPML provides an abstracted execution model for collaborative & transactional business processes that span multiple applications, corporate departments, and business partners, behind the firewall and over the Internet. By covering the multiple dimensions of business process management in the open enterprise, BPML will bridge the gap between legacy IT infrastructures and emerging business-to-business collaboration protocols such as ebXML, RosettaNet, and BizTalk. The BPML specification will be made available to the general public in Q1 2001.
