Hi,

will there be further development of BPML in the years to come?
If not, what benefit does BPML have except of providing conceptual ideas for process modelling?

The reason why I ask is:

I didn't find very many recent publications about BPML
http://www.itsc.org.sg/synthesis/2004/4_WS.pdf states, that there has not been any development on BPML in the last two years
/forum/viewtopic.php?t=91 states, that there is a mapping from BPMN to BPEL, but not to BPML. So why should one use BPML if even bpmi.org doesn't use it?

Although some would argue that BPEL is technically inderior to BPML, the market has decided to annoint BPEL as the execution language going forward. The perception is that this is primarily as a result of the involvement of the gorillas in the IT industry in the develoopment of the BPEL standard ( IBM, Microsoft, SAP, BEA, etc.).

In June 2004, the Board of BPMI took a difficult decsion (with a little opposition here and there) to endorse BPEL as the execution language and move on from BPML. That doesnt mean that BPML is 100% dead - there are a fair number of users of the language.

THe organisaiton is currently exploring (and looking for further involvement from industry and other interested parties) a set of applications and generic process related interfaces for BPEL.
